The Symphony Guild of Charlotte, Inc. is proud to announce that, since year 2000, it has awarded in excess of $200,000 in scholarships to the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras members.

2016-2017 Allen E. Beck Scholarship

WINNER Andrew DeWeese
Established in 2017 by the generosity of family and friends, this scholarship fund honors the life and memory of Allen E. Beck and his dedication to musical excellence. 

2016-2017 Betsy Knight Scholarship

WINNER Daniel Chabeda
The coaches and music director of the CSYO select the recipient of this merit award.  Guild member Ann Thomas funds this award in memory of her dear friend Betsy Knight. 

2016-2017 Meg Hutchins Scholarship

WINNER Jamie Lee
Established in 2005, this scholarship fund honors the life and memory of Dr. Meg Hutchins, daughter of Peg and Tom Hutchins. 

2016-2017 Past Presidents' Scholarship

WINNER Zach McMillan
This scholarship is permanently in the Guild budget and funded by Guild income. The coaches and music director of the CSYO select a CSYO high school senior who intends to study music at the collegiate or conservatory level for this merit award.


Tuition Assistance

 
The general guideline for awarding youth orchestra tuition assistance is an annual gross income of less than $50,000 for a family. The award is applied towards partial or full funding of youth orchestra students' tuition at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee at the beginning of each youth orchestra season in September.

Private Study Scholarships

The general guideline for awarding private study assistance is an annual gross income of less than $50,000 for a family. The awards provide assistance for 8 weeks of lessons for CSYO and 6 weeks for JYO per semester. Lesson records and progress reports must be signed and submitted by the students' private teachers verifying completion of the requirements at the end of each semester.
