Romanian
violinist
Liviu Prunaru
has won the top
prizes and gained international recognition at all of the most
prestigious international violin competitions in the world,
including the gold medal in the 1997 Dong-A International Violin
Competition in Korea, and silver medal in the Queen Elizabeth
Competition in Brussels. Currently he serves as
Concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra of Amsterdam.
Mr. Prunaru made
his New York City debut with the Julliard Symphony in Lincoln
Center’s Alice Tully Hall after capturing the first grand prize
in the Juilliard Mendelssohn Competition. He has been featured
as soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London
Symphony Orchestra, and Belgium National Orchestra, among many
others.
Born in Craiova,
Romania, Mr. Prunaru began his violin studies at the age of 6.
He completed his professional studies with Miss Dorothy DeLay in
New York, where he also actively participated in Master Classes
with Itzakh Perlman. Currently a professor at the Menuhin
Academy in Switzerland and former assistant of Miss Dorothy
DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York, Mr. Prunaru is
performing on a 1676 Guarneri violin graciously lent to him by
Professor M. Muller.
