The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras

The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras are the educational components of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Students from the areas surrounding Charlotte are offered a unique performing experience in which talented young musicians obtain musical training in a semi-professional ensemble setting.

The Charlotte Symphony Junior Youth Orchestra is for students in grades 4 through 9. This highly successful orchestra provides training sessions, which covers the basics of being an orchestra musician. There is a one-day "mini camp" in the fall, sponsored by the Symphony Guild. This special day provides an opportunity for intensive rehearsals and recreational activities.

The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra is open to students in grades 8 through 12, although exceptions can be made for very advanced younger students. The group performs about six concerts a year. Their first concert of the season is performed at the Symphony Guild ASID Designer House on Opening Day.

Members of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra also enjoy a week-long resident music camp underwritten by the Symphony Guild. The Guild provides scholarships for members of both orchestras.

The Youth Festival sponsored by the Guild gives these students the wonderful opportunity to play in the Performing Arts Center and with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra – an experience they will never forget!
